Dr Glen Baker – Dentist in Caringbah

– Jacaranda Dental –

Bachelor of Dental Surgery (Hons) SYD Uni, 1st Class Honours and University Medal 1994

Dr Baker is the co-founder and principal dentist at Jacaranda Dental. With over 30 years of dental practice experience, he has a commitment to excellence and a passion for creating healthy, beautiful smiles for his patients.

“My philosophy is to make people comfortable and to hear out their dental needs and concerns, and work together to find a solution that helps them on their dental journey. It’s important to offer caring treatment that can meet their individual circumstances and develop a relationship of trust moving forward. I strive to offer comprehensive treatment and stay current with the latest dental technology to ensure my patients receive the very best of care”.

Glen has practised in Caringbah as a dentist for 27 years, in partnership with his wife Dr Wood. Originally from Wagga Wagga, Glen’s career as a dentist started in Westmead Hospital, where he was a dental officer from 1995-1997, helping public sector patients from Western Sydney. In 1997, he split his time working both as a Cronulla dentist and at a practice in Martin Place, Sydney.

With a love for the Sutherland Shire, the foundations of Jacaranda Dental were started in 1999 with the purchase of a small practice in Hay Ave. In 2006, a house was purchased and specifically remodelled as a dental practice, and in 2008 the team transitioned to the new practice at Jacaranda Dental.

Dr Baker’s 30+ years of clinical experience includes all forms of general dental practice. From routine preventive check-up and clean visits to complex full mouth rehabilitations, Dr Baker has helped patients with all types of dental problems. His scope of practice includes all services other than Orthodontic treatment – which he refers to Dr Wood or the local specialist orthodontists, and complex wisdom teeth surgery – which he refers to the local oral and maxillofacial surgeon.

He has kept up with the latest continuing education and dental technology to ensure your treatment is meeting best clinical practice standards.

Dr Baker has a special interest and is very experienced in the field of implant dentistry. “I saw early on the enormous impact that dental implants would have on the care of patients and the future of dentistry. It was important that I could offer this new and exciting treatment option to our patients at a time when most dentists would just refer their patients off to another specialist or just didn’t offer the treatment as it was unfamiliar to them. Over the past 23 years, I have placed and restored close to 1,000 implants and place implants on a weekly basis. I’m proud to say that while the numbers are there, what’s most important is that I do implants well. It’s important to be regularly placing dental implants to be confident and competent in achieving great clinical results.”

In 2010, Glen completed the UCLA Global Institute for Dental Education (gIDE) Implant training programme, a comprehensive 12 month implant education in both Sydney and Los Angeles USA with the world’s best dental implant lecturers. He placed 2nd in the Asia Pacific cohort for that year.

“The gIDE programme was the right step to making sure that my knowledge base and skill level could meet the needs of my patients. I wanted to be confident that I could achieve great results with advanced procedures like bone grafting and soft tissue grafting where needed, to ensure optimal aesthetics and treatment that lasts”
Since then Dr Baker has maintained an ongoing commitment to Dental Implant education and attended the Nobel Biocare World Symposium in Madrid 2019 and more recently the EuroPerio 2025 conference in Vienna.

“Events like these showcase the latest research, implant developments and clinical techniques from master clinicians around the world and immediately update and improve what I can offer my implant patients here in Caringbah.”

Dr Baker manages all types of dental implant treatment:

  • single dental implants
  • multiple dental implants
  • ‘All-on-4’ dental rehabilitations
  • Implant overdentures

“The types of presentation here in general practice are commonly a single tooth replacement where a tooth is failing and needs to be replaced. Sometimes we can do this as an immediate implant, however that’s not always the case and sometimes it needs to be delayed and improved with grafting. It’s important that I understand where the best implant treatment lies and explain to the patient why we need to manage things the way we do”.

Since 2012 Dr Baker has been travelling to the country to work in another dental practice (Best St Dental), to offer dental implant treatment to the people of Wagga Wagga and surrounds. This referral based practice has continued every month since then.

“Early on I saw the need for this treatment option in the country. Patients were not able to access Implant dentistry as dentists were not familiar with the treatment and at the time were referring them to specialist practices in Sydney, Melbourne or Canberra. Considering the long travel times, need for multiple visits and being away from home for a minor surgical procedure, it was no wonder patients put dental implants in the ‘too hard’ basket and looked for another option. It’s been a privilege to be able to help these people and personally rewarding to help them and the local dentists.”

“Other than my love of dentistry,I love to travel and experience the great outdoors – often combined with a bit of exercise or adventure! I love to go fishing and targeting different species. I feel very lucky to live in Sutherland Shire. Locally you might see me running along the Esplanade, mountain biking in the National Park or ocean swimming Cronulla’s Shark Island. Navigating the individual challenges of dentistry while meeting the needs of my patients is extremely rewarding and keeps me smiling.”
